    A Gap Analysis

A gap analysis is an economical and efficient option prior to full SMS implementation. In the Gap Analysis, we will compare your processes to industry SMS standards to reveal any shortcomings. Between the Gap Analysis and implementation, Eddie Kirkland may be able to serve as an interim Safety Manager if needed.

    Guidance and Assistance With Implementation

We will analyze any “gaps” identified before creating an SMS implementation plan, including the steps and timeline required for SMS implementation. SMS implementation is typically achieved in four phases:

    1. Phase One – Laying the groundwork needed in order to begin implementing parts of the safety program
    2. Phase Two – Documenting foundational, core elements of the SMS in order to develop an internal SMS Policy as well as making provider and product recommendations
    3. Phase Three – Establishing the Safety Risk Management (SRM) process(es) and designing other elements of the SMS that will be critical for safety assurance activities
    4. Phase Four – Executing the SMS and then monitoring the SMS

Industry SMS Requirements

  • ICAO

Many International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) member states  are requiring formal SMS implementation for most operators. ICAO has identified four pillars of SMS:

    • Safety Policy
    • Risk Management
    • Safety Assurance
    • Safety Promotion
  • IS-BAO

Developed by the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) and its member associations, the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operation (IS-BAO) is a code of best practices designed to help flight departments worldwide achieve high levels of safety and professionalism. At the core of the IS-BAO is a scalable SMS tool for business aircraft operators.
